march 19 2010 review by hardwarecanucks
The XFX 5830 has a special cooling solution but this card is not overclocked and still has the 'official' stock speed. With this card you'll get a Lifetime Warranty that means that even if you sell this card, the buyer will have the
same rights.
The price tag is set in between the HD5850 and the HD5770, the HD4890 1GB will be taken off the market and the new 5830 can be seen as its replacement. This video card uses the Cypress core, you'll find the same chip as the HD5850 and
HD5870, cores that didn't pass the tests for the higher segment in the 5800 series will be used for the 5830.
This card was compared to the Sapphire HD 5830, HD 5850 and 5870 both with 1GB, ATI HD 4890, EVGA GTX 260, 275, 285 and 295.
Conclusion:
Next to a very good cooler and cooling performance the card sometimes surpasses the HD5770 but sometimes it's also very close, you'll get a free game and of course as mentioned before there's a double lifetime warranty.
There should have been a balance of pricing and performance, when it came down to cutting the people of XFX have cut a bit to much, except perhaps for the card's size wich can be considered as big.
