april 1 2010 review by hexus.net
Compared to: EVGA GeForce GTX 275, HIS Radeon 5970 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 and 5870 1GB, Inno3D Geforce GTX295, BFG GeForce GTX 285 and 295.
Conclusion: The Radeon HD 5870 Toxic 2GB is cloced very high @925MHz GPU core with an excellent Vapor-X air cooler. Taking the 2GB buffer and the very good and quiet air-cooling into account and being the Fastest single-GPU
graphics card (on april 1 2010) the price/performance ratio is OK. This graphics card does not support Eyefinity6 and the front-mounted power connectors may cause fitting issues depending on the computer case.
Test setup: CPU: Core i7 965 -- Mainboard: ASUS P6X58D -- Memory: 3x2GB DDR3 1066MHz Crucial -- Power Supply: Corsair HX1000W
Overclocking: The reviewers reached 975MHz for the GPU core and 5.2GHz for the GDR5, a gain of 5.4% and 4% respectively. Overclocking results are not that high because the Radeon HD 5870 allready has a high "factory-clock"
and the voltages cannot be increased. Running Dirt 2 resulted in a gain of 3 FPS (1920 X 1200).
Benchmarks: DiRT 2, H.A.W.X, Far Cry 2, Crysis Warhead, Power Consumption, Temperatures, price/performance ratio.
