AMD 28nm graphics News

No new architecture for 2012 just a die shrink.

April 12 2011 news by fudzilla

AMD 28nm graphics The Southern Islands (Radeon HD 7000?) series is a new family of GPUs developed by AMD, to be released in the second half of 2011. There won't be any major architectural upgrade, when compared to previous series, just a die shrink.

Still AMD wants to implement some more shaders, since 28nm will have more space and a lower thermal design power, these chips that will replace the Radeon HD6870 and HD6850, will have a higher performance.

Turks (The Turks core is used in the Radeon HD 6670 and the Radeon HD 6570 graphics cards) and Caicos (The Radeon HD 6450 is the only AMD graphics card model based on the Caicos core) will barely excite anyone as the Llano APU will have graphics that will put a lot of pressure on mainstream market. Brazos will compete with entry level.
