Intel Core i7 980X futurelooks reviewed the Intel Core i7 980X

Three CPUs were compared in this review: The Core i7 870, the i7 975 and the i7 980X.

The i7 980X memory controller is Triple Channel and it makes sure there is ample memory bandwidth readily available for each core when needed. The memory bandwidth is round and about 25 GB/s using Triple Channel 1066MHz DDR3 memory.

The Core i7 980X (Gulftown socket 1366) is only going to fit on motherboards with Intel X58 Chipsets. Check the manufacturers production page to see if it works with six cores.

The new innovative 32nm micro architecture with six cores and thelow 130W TDP, dual Hyper-Threads is incredibly fast.

Overclocking:
Base Clock overclocking the six Cores: The reviewers tried pushing the CPU Bus to 180MHz before raising the voltage.
With the multiplier at default they stopped @ 172MHz BCLK which resulted in a core frequency of 4472MHz.

Benchmarks: Sandra, Cinebench, 3D mark vantage, Heaven Demo, Crysis, x264 HD, Windows x64 MediaEncoder.

Intel Core i7 980X guru3d reviewed the Intel Core i7 980X

This CPU was compared to many other processors in the benchmarks.

Conclusion: The Core i7 980X is grand and majestic in Content creation, in video transcoding, 3D CPU rendering and object design with software like Maxon's Cinema 4D, file compression/decompression software, virtualisation. The new multi-threaded upcoming games are in demand of a processor like the i7 980X.

Clock frequency bing 3.33 GHz is very high and the extra L3 cache speeds up even single threaded applications, the price tag of $999 processor is a complte other story.

With the new revision/stepping and 32nm Intle was able to raise the CPU-speed for all six physical processor cores with a 130W TDP design.

Overclocking: The reviewers tried a few voltages and used the unlocked multiplierand got the processor stable at 4400 MHz with liquid cooling.
